Oxidation

ILLA's Cumene Oxidation Technology is based on oxidation of cumene by air oxygen to form cumene hydroperoxide.

The Distinctive Features of ILLA's Oxidation, differentiating it from other competitive technologies, include the following:

1.

almost four times reduction in the amount of inhibitors which influence the cumene oxidation reaction rate;

2.

stabilization of the pH value across the reactors;

3.

control and regulation of oxygen concentration in reactor spent gases (off-gases);

4.

organization of optimal heat removal in the reactors;

5.

maintaining optimal conditions based on a kinetic model of the process.

The specific novel feature of the ILLA Oxidation Process is the preparation of feed to oxidation by treating the recycle streams with binary alkaline agent and keeping a theoretically required pH value. The presence of a neutralizer of rather high solubility in the oxidation product decreases the influence of inhibitors on the reaction rate, thus increasing the CHP rate and process selectivity.

ILLA International's commercial operating experience has taught that the advanced process of dry cumene oxidation may provide a selectivity of 94.5-95 % mol. at cumene conversion of 20-22 % mol. in oxidizers of significantly smaller size than in competitive technologies. A kinetic model developed in ILLA is used at the design phase.
